Continue ReadingThe halfway point in the high school season is here and we are looking to expand and reset our rankings for each class. We are working today on the class of 2020 and the position rankings with our group of point guards. Here is what you need to know for these top flight prospects.
Overview:
With 48 players ranked as point guards in the latest update, that is nearly 30% of the prospects and accounts for the biggest swath of talent. In this class, though, there just isn’t a ton of high-end talent and the depth isn’t there.
However, with Michael Saunders Jr. and Nijel Pack at the top of the list, you do have some really good players to start with. The next tier down with Tayson Parker, Brevin Jefferson, and Sincere McMahon give you some guys that are going to be between levels right now. All three have the talent to rise up but haven’t really solidified their level yet.
Down the list, the DII and NAIA programs could get some solid options as guys have bumped up their stock. Bobby Fry, Simon Scherry, and Hayden Jones are three that stand out the most right now and should be pretty coveted.
There are also quite a few guys that really need the summer to help get them on the radar a little more. Kel’Ondre Dixon is a new name that absolutely needs to be seen. Donovynn Sisson–Lewis and Josh Davis are two others that come to mind that will probably look better once the spring and summer come around. and could be moving up if things go well.
There isn’t a ton of size in this point guard class. Even at the top, this isn’t a position that has a ton of height outside of Brevin Jefferson. Tayson Parker does look taller on film and we will see him live later in the year but guys over 6’1, just don’t exist in this group of 2020’s.
New Additions:
With the latest edition of the 2020 rankings, we have added seven new faces to the point guard rankings. The top guy on the list is Evansville Harrison’s Kel’Ondre Dixon. The talented 6’0 guard is thin but tough and a guy that can make shots at all levels and has proven his scoring ability this year. We have also added Darin Starks, Chris Chinn, Conner VanLannen, Noah Wolfe, Dawson Wolfe, and Brice Gilman.
Stock Risers:
The biggest stock risers in this update are Simon Scherry, Mar’Quan Givens, and Josiah Ricketts. All three hail from the southern Indiana area and are having solid years. Ricketts has become a big time scoring threat, Givens just has solidified his game and looks more well-rounded. But, the biggest mover was Simon Scherry. The 6’1 guard is well-built, tough, and one of the best passers in the state on top of being one of the best floor generals. Seeing him in high school relative to AAU is completely different. You can see how he can own a team and make those big time, game-winning plays without being the guy that has to take the shot.
