The regular season of high school ball is half way over, Holiday Tournaments are completed and multiple players have gained new college offers and interest. Below we will feature some of the players who have raised their stock the most, through outstanding individual play, as well as leading their teams to a solid start to the high school season.
Stock Risers of 2018:
2019 Christian Zamora, 6’5, SG, Lynden HS- The best shooter in Lynden’s history has been overlooked in his recruitment in the last year, but things are starting to heat up for the unsigned senior. Christian is on pace to break Lynden’s all time scoring record and he has led the team to a 10-0 start, including a blowout win over Seattle’s O’Dea High School. With averages of 18 points per game and 7 rebounds, he has been a consistent all-around threat for Lynden’s high scoring attack. The State Champion and 2-time All-State player turned interest to an offer with Division 2 Alaska Fairbanks. In the meantime, Christian has some more records to break and they are a favorite to win another State Championship.
2019 Alex Schumacher, 6’2, PG, Skyview HS- The unsigned senior point guard is Skyview’s unquestioned star. He has had some big time performances, including 16 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists in early December. More recently, he was a crowd favorite at the Les Schwab Invitational drawing the oo’s and ah’s of the sold out facility. The strong start to his senior year has drawn the attention of Division 2 schools Western Oregon, St. Martin’s, and Chaminade. Most recently, he has heard from Division 1 Furman University of the Southern Conference.
2021 Tyson Degenhart, 6’7, SF, Mt. Spokane HS- Tyson came into the season as one of the 10 best sophomores in the state, but he has shown that his game has stepped up to another level. As the only Division 1 recruit on Mt. Spokane’s team, he has led them to a number 3 ranking in 3A. Their only loss came to Nationally ranked Gonzaga Prep, earlier in the year. Tyson has had some big games scoring 25 plus points on multiple occasions. It’s still early in the recruitment process, but I fully expect his recruitment to heat up as he continues to play at a high level and help his team win ball games heading into GSL conference play.
2020 Liam Lloyd, 6’5, SG, Gonzaga Prep HS- The son of Gonzaga University assistant, Tommy Lloyd, has some serious game. His athleticism is coming around as he grows into his body, even throwing down some impressive dunks in layup lines. He has solid length and shooting ability for a junior in high school and seems to be getting better as the season goes along. His confidence is very high this year and he is the second leading scorer on the team behind Gonzaga commit Anton Watson. Liam came into the season with an offer from Eastern Washington, but he also picked up an offer from the Air Force due to his stellar play so far this season. Gonzaga Prep is one of the favorites to win 4A and Liam will be a huge part of them having a chance to win their second straight gold ball.
2021 John Christofolis, 6’4, SG, O’Dea HS- John had a solid start to the season, but he really boosted his stock when O’Dea traveled to San Diego for the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic. John went viral displaying his array of shot making ability and quick release. John is more than a stand-still shooter. He can score off the bounce, coming off screens and he can make some things happen attacking the basket as well. After a strong showcase, John picked up another Division 1 offer from San Diego. He also holds offers from UW and Grand Canyon University. If the sophomore can keep up his strong play, O’Dea will be a tough team to beat in March.
