St. Peter. Section 2AA is having a very tough year. Most teams in the section are not good. Who is good? St. Peter. They are 7-2 on the season and Wyatt Olson has stepped forward to be a near 26 point game scorer. Fellow junior Josh Johnson is also having a big year scoring 16 a night.
Roseau. Roseau? Yes Roseau. The hockey school? This hockey school is hooping this year! With an 8-2 record that includes some wins over traditional powers the Rams have built strongly after last year’s 8-2 season. Senior lead guard Eric Hoffer and a frontcourt led by Nate O’Connor and Jack Hirst have people worried about Roseau!
Dover-Eyota. With Brady Williams last season Dover-Eyota was barely over .500. Because of that and the amount of top programs in Section 1AA the Eagles were somewhat of a preseason afterthought. So how is this team 9-3? Brady has been Brady has also got a lot of help from Jack Studer, a fellow 20 point per game scorer.
Spectrum. “You ranked Spectrum?” they asked? Well yeah. At 10-1 with a victory over ranked Albany the Sting earned it. A three headed scoring monster has been formed by Matt Kruse, Cole Elrod, and Max Lawrence who are combing to score 56 points a game among them. Spectrum has a big game with MCA tomorrow.
Crosby-Ironton. Do we really not expect C-I to be a top team? They are always a top team! The Rangers are one of the state’s best programs led by Dave Galovich, we just didn’t realize they were going to be fighting for a top ten spot! Joseph Stokman is a 6-foot-2 guard that moved into the area and Joseph is scoring 26 a game for a one loss team.
Albany. Wins over New-London Spicer, Melrose, Annandale, Sauk Centre, and others put Albany in the top ten for a time this year. Albany was 17-11 last season but is now 8-2. They win games with balance. Jordan Schiffler does a fantastic job moving the ball to all the weapons and guys like senior Isaac Nett (15 points a game) and Nolan Rueter (scoring 11 a game as a sophomore) have benefited.
Holy Family. Speaking of balance, how about the Holy Family Fire! After the numbers and talent that graduated from last year nobody expected Holy Family to be a consistently ranked team. And nobody thought they would be 10-2 with some headlining wins. Sure they’ve lost a pair recently but this team won ten straight this year Nick Hendler, Ryan Bowlin, and Jacob Konz scoring in double digits.
St. James Area. St. James was six games under .500 last year. They were 10-16 in 17-18. With 19 points, nine boards, and six assists a game as a junior we surely expected Parker Jones leading the way. Parker is scoring 24 plus a game for a St. James team that is now 9-1 on the season plus Derrick Halvorson and Kobe Mohwinkel stepping forward.
