There were a bunch of great Friday night games taking place in the Dallas Fort Worth Area. However, the best one might have been the matchup between Little Elm (10-6) and South Garland (10-5). Here are the nationally ranked prospects that performed up to par:
Player Breakdown
R.J. Hampton / 6’5″/ SG / Little Elm / 2020 PHTX 100-2020 (1)
The number one player in the state for the junior class was outstanding on both ends of the floor. Defensively, he made life as hard as possible on Maxey by utilizing his length and moving his feet. Offensively, he has not shot the ball as well as he did in the summer, but he has consistently been extremely explosive when getting to the basket. Hampton was truly unstoppable when slashing and scored all of his points in the paint or at the charity stripe. He scored 22 second-half points and led Little Elm with 33 points in the victory. Safe to say, R.J. Hampton is the best player in the state regardless of class.
Brandon Crossley / 6’0″ / PG / Little Elm / 2020
????
Crossley is a three-star defensive back that will sign his letter of intent to Colorado State later this month. However, like most dual-sport athletes, he brings in his football intensity to the basketball court. Crossley played intense defense and was extremely aggressive knifing his way to the basket on the offensive end. The cornerback scored 13 points in the win.
Harris
Chris Harris Chris Harris 5'10" | PG Fort Bend Hightower | 2020 State TX Jr./ 6’3″ / SG / South Garland / 2019 PHTX 200-2019 (8)
Harris was quiet in the first quarter, but got it going in the second by scoring 16 points within the period. He constantly took the ball strong to the rack and finished with ease through contact. Harris also had his jumper working for him as he knocked down a couple of shots from long distance. The matchup headline was Maxey vs. Hampton. However, Harris took the spotlight away from his five-star teammate tonight as he scored a game-high 35 points in the loss. It could have been a 40-point performance if it were not due to missed opportunities at the charity stripe.
Tyrese Maxey / 6’4″ / SG / South Garland / 2019 PHTX 200-2019 (1)
Maxey got off to a great start scoring all eight of South Garland’s points in the first quarter. He finished the game with 21 points on the night. The Kentucky signee also did not shoot the ball as well as I am accustomed to seeing him shoot, but he was able to get the rim and finish with ease. What amazes me about Maxey’s elite finishing is his ability to contort his body to give himself a comfortable look at the rim. Also, his ability to see the floor and thread the needle will be a plus for the Wildcats next season.
