Along with those conference is an old-school GCL matchup that is sure to be very, very competitive. Here are some previews and predictions for this week, the third week of the season.
Hughes (1-1, 1-0) vs. Taft (3-0, 0-0) Tuesday 7:30pm- This is the first conference game for a Senators program coming off two quality victories last weekend over Deer Park and Dayton Dunbar. There ball movement, outside shooting and defensive pressure will be strong points that a young Big Red squad must overcome in what will be a hostile environment. It will be interesting to see how Hughes responds after their 44-point loss to Moeller on Friday.
Prediction: Taft
Hamilton (1-1, 0-1) vs. Princeton (2-1, 1-0) Tuesday 7:30pm- A key Greater Miami Conference matchup between two teams expected to finish at or near the top of the standings. This will be all about the backcourts as the three man 2020 trio of the Vikings (Kaleb Crawford, DeAirius Barker and Khalil Davis) will be up against the high 2019 scoring duo of D’Marco Howard and Jaylen Robinson (Northern St. commit) of Big Blue. This game will come down to who has the most depth and gets the most production from their bench.
Prediction: Hamilton
Elder (2-2, 0-0) vs. Purcell Marian (0-2, 0-1) Tuesday 7:30pm- The Cavaliers are off to a surprising 0-2, so while not a must win and would be good to get a notch in the win column against an old-school GCL rival. This is the 2nd of five straight road games for the Panthers who are coming off a nice victory over neighborhood rival Western Hills.
Prediction: Purcell Marian
Deer Park (3-1, 1-0) vs. Wyoming (0-0) Friday 7:30pm- With a lot of their varsity roster coming off a D-IV football championship season it will be interesting to see how the Cowboys will respond in their 1st game of the season. And what a first game it will be as they take on the defending league and D-III state champs. Will Findlay commit Joey Edmonds and D-I hardwood/gridiron performer Evan Prater (2020 PHO #25) have their basketball legs under them for this huge senior opener? This has become one of the better basketball rivalries in the city.
Prediction: Deer Park
North College Hill (1-2, 1-1) vs. Clark Montessori (3-1, 2-0) Friday 7:30pm- A big game in the MVC with both teams in the top 3 in the standings early in the season. A loss by the Trojans could put them 2 games behind in what should be a very competitive conference. Watch for the matchup between NCH F Cameron Harris (2019 PHO Top 125) and Clark F Marlin Lyons, two of the better players at their position in the MVC.
Prediction: Clark Montessori
