But never fret as there are some very good games on the schedule for week four, which includes some very good conference matchups. Here are the Previews and Predictions for week four in Cincinnati.
Oyler (3-0, 3-1) vs. Gamble Montessori (3-0, 4-3) Tuesday 7:30pm- This is a match up that could quickly become one of the better rivalries in the city. Expect an up and down, high-scoring affair where the team with better backcourt play should walk away with the victory.
Prediction: Gamble
Withrow (1-2, 2-4) vs. West Clermont (1-2, 3-2) Tuesday 7:30pm- It has been a struggle offensively for a Tigers team many seen as top 5 in Cincy in the pre-season. They have been held under the 50 point mark in very game since the season-opener including a 25-point effort in a loss to Turpin. This game also features two of the better big men in their class in the state in 2019 C Abba Lawal (PHO #26/Withrow) and 2020 C Jackson Ames (PHO #28/West Clermont).
Prediction: Withrow
Covington Catholic (KY) (6-2) vs. Moeller (4-0, 0-0) Friday 7:30pm- The best team in Northern Kentucky is coming across the Ohio River to face the best team in Ohio. Cov Cath is 1-1 against Cincinnati teams this season, having bested LaSalle by 17 on 12/14 then losing to Taft by two the next night. Now they face a team whose average margin of victory is 36 points and has scored at least 85 points three times. Yeah, good luck with that one.
Prediction: Moeller
Lakota East (4-1, 3-0) vs. Oak Hills (3-0, 3-0) Friday 7:30pm- These two teams are locked in a 4-way tie along with Mason and Princeton for 1st place in the GMC. The Highlanders have outrebounded their opponents by a +17 margin so far this season. Can they continue that trend against an East team that includes 6’4 Bash Wieland (2019/Bellarmine) and 6’7 Alex Mangold (2020 PHO #35)?
Prediction: Oak Hills
West Clermont (1-2, 3-2) vs. St. Xavier (3-1, 0-0) Friday 7:30pm- Besides league rival Moeller there has arguably not been a team better in Cincy than the Bombers. Since there season opening loss to Lakota West, St. X has won three in a row which includes victories over Princeton and Lakota East during that span. Can they make it four in a row against a tough Wolves program?
Prediction: St. Xavier
Hamilton Badin (5-0, 2-0) vs. Purcell Marian (1-1, 3-2) Friday 7:30pm- A win by the Cavaliers could at the least cause a 2-way tie at the top of the GCL Coed. Coach Kerr team must find a way to contain Badin senior Justin Pappas who is averaging 15ppg this season on 54% shooting.
Prediction: Purcell
Wyoming (3-0, 2-0) vs. Western Hills (0-1, 2-3) Friday 7:30pm- This is a potential trap game for a Wyoming team that showed how dangerous it can be last week when at full strength. The Cowboys won 3 games over a 4-day span last week, which included an exciting one point victory over league rival Deer Park December 14th. It will be interesting to see how Findlay commit Joey Edmonds and company handle the length and athleticism and of a young but very talented Mustangs squad they plays as hard as any team in the area.
Prediction: Wyoming
