3 Games
Bountiful vs. East
The Braves have one of the toughest schedules in the state this year and they face off against a good East team that has size, shooting and athleticism. Bountiful has three players averaging 17 points or more on their team this year. The biggest addition to this years success has been the improved play of 6’5 (2021) 235 lb. Robert Whaley who already has three double-doubles. Cameron Chism is their leading scorer and has already hit 21 three-pointers this year.
East has played a softer schedule but they have the players to compete with anyone. Earlier this year they gave Wasatch Academy a good run. East is lead by Taylor Zwick and Andre Mulibea. This cold be a great game that could come down to who could get more stops down the stretch.
Wasatch Academy vs. Capital Christian (CA)
The # 1 Ranked Tigers make the trip to the Sacramento area to play some tough schools. There second game of the trip features a game against a similar school to Wasatch Academy based out of Sacramento that also produces a large amount of D1 talent. We think the Tigers will dominate a struggling Capital Christian school that is currently 0-5.
Bingham vs. Timpanogos
Timpanogos has two losses this season to Copper Hills and Lone Peak. Their four wins have come against teams that are sub-par. The question will be if the T-Wolves could show some growth and beat a good Bingham team. Matt Norman will have to come up big if they want to win.
Bingham on the other hand is not going to take any team lightly but this game could be a good tune-up before they head out to the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas. The Miners are getting great team production from everyone which makes them a tough match-up for everyone.
- Other games to keep an eye on: Green Canyon vs. Fremont, Orem vs. American Fork
3 Players
Carter Berish of Green Canyon is a 2019 SG who can handle the ball. He has elevated Green Canyon this year and has them playing well. They’re currently undefeated as he is averaging 22 points per game. Carter could be a good NWAC or D3 player that could play two positions. Carter could be a player that goes off in the playoffs and surprises a team or two.
Justin Rogers of Tooele is a 2021 F that is scoring 19 points per game. He is 6’3 but plays much taller. He is a hard nose player. His team will struggle but he will be a 1st Team-All Region player. Justin could be a NJUCO or D2 type prospect.
Braxton Tanner of Maple Mountain is a 6’3 G/F that can score. he is averaging 22 points per game and is playing well for a tough Maple Mountain team. The 2020 prospect will help his team fight for a 3rd or 4th spot in their region. He scored a state high this year of 50 points. Looking for him to have two or more opportunities to score 30 or more points before the year is over. Braxton could be a solid D3, NAIA player that could help a team immediately because he has good size.
3 Teams
Westlake– The Thunder have been playing well as of late. They’re currently undefeated with their best win coming against Corner Canyon. We expect Westlake to go undefeated till their game against Jordan High School in late December. That game will be a good one. Westlake is lead by Jared McGregor who is averaging 18 points per-game. Westlake has seven other players contributing in the scoring column consistently. Westlake is one of those less talked about teams in Region 4 which makes them a bit underrated. If Westlake could make the playoffs they could be a dangerous 6A team.
Brighton- The Bengals cold possibly go undefeated before their trip to Torrey Pines for a post Christmas Tournament. They are lead by Luc Krystkowiak who is putting up good numbers. He is nearly leading the team in each category. Last year Brighton only won 8 games and we expect them to reach that mark before region play. The Bengals should battle Cottonwood another surprise team for the last playoff spot in their region.
Draper APA– The small charter school in Draper that is right behind the Aquarium has been playing well. They have won every game they have played and we expect them to rattle off 8 more wins. They’re playing under .500 teams all pre-season and won’t get tested till they play Rowland Hall and Rockwell. With a few transfers the APA Draper campus is finding ways to compete. Mateija Minic a transfer from Cottonwood and Cole Palmer another transfer.
