Woods Cross vs. Clearfield
With Woods Cross starting the year off with a loss to an up and down Syracuse team, the Wildcats have found some success. Mainly coming from 6’3 Jake Howe and Tyler Roberts. Jake is an underrated shooting guard that can handle the basketball. He has unlimited range and great vision. Tyler is a stretch W at 6’5 that can play inside and out. Clearfield has two wins a this year and have a great player in Conner Izatt who is averaging 20 points per game thus far. This game should be a great match-up.
Jordan vs. Pleasant Grove
We already know that PG is loaded and is the 6A favorite to win state. Jordan on the other hand has a lot to prove. Jordan could be a power in 5A but only beat Granger by 8 points and Granger is not usually known to be good. The Beetdiggers are lead by Dyson Koehler who put up 30 points in their lone game. PG has a major advantage in this being their 7th game.
Maple Mountain vs. Westlake
Maple Mountain brings a 3-0 record into this game with wins against sub-par teams. Braxton Tanner was averaging 12.5 points per game before he dropped 50 points on 3A Emery. Westlake is looking to humble Maple Mountain. Don’t be surprised if Westlake stays undefeated through December. Jared McGregor is playing well and has a great supporting cast.
3 Players
2019 6’7 Majok Kuath of Kearns High School
The unsigned senior had 19 points and 16 rebounds in game one of the season. Majok is one of the best unsigned seniors available. His older brother is currently playing at Oklahoma University after a stellar 2 years playing JUCO ball. Majok could be a late bloomer as well as we see him get bigger, better and stronger every year. Look for Majok to average a double-double the entire season.
2019 6’3 Kendall Draxler of Farmington High School
Kendall decided to leave Viewmont and attend new high school Farmington and he has the Phoenix off to a 2-0 start as they have a tough game against Wasatch tonight. He is averaging 19 points per game. Last year when he attended Viewmont he only averaged 6 points per game.
2020 6’6 Caleb Koski of Intermountain Christian
The Roy High School transfer, as he should, is dominating the competition right now. Moving from a 5A program to a 1A program has proved to be worth the stats as Caleb is currently the leading scorer in the state. With a schedule of lower talented schools look for his numbers to remain the same. Caleb is a good player but he plays against lower level competition.
3 Teams
Wasatch High School
Wasatch will be one of those teams fighting for a 3rd or 4th place finish in region that could give them a playoff birth. Will Harris is averaging 18 points per game after 4 games. The Wasp’s are on a 3-game winning streak as they play a tough Farmington team. We expect Wasatch to make the playoffs with good play from their starting five and they have great coaching as well.
Wendover High School
The 1A school is off to a great 3-0 start. They are lead by Jamie Montalvo, Brayan Mendoza and Pedro Alvarez. This trio is averaging 40 points a game. They are heading into a tough stretch of their schedule as they play Parowan and Bryce Valley. This team could make some noise in 1A. We will see how they fair this weekend against some of the usually good 1A schools.
Canyon View High School
The Falcons could be up for a rough season as they have already drooped games to lowly Cottonwood and Juab. They could go on a 6 game loosing streak if they don’t figure somethings out. They’re getting good point production from Mason Lyman and Parker Holmes. Their lack of height could be exposed by schools in their region that have bigger players and more depth.
