Continue ReadingThis season we have seen quite a few big time scoring performances and we are only in the month of December. We are going to take a moments and highlight some of the top 10 scorers in the state, some have already committed to colleges and other have yet to receive an offer so it’s a nice mixture of known and unknown talent on the list.
Louisburg Sophomore Guard Elijah Jamison starts off the list and that is no surprise to anybody, he has been scoring the ball at an extremely high level and averaging over 36 points a night. Let that sink in for a moment, in only his second year of varsity basketball, he is averaging just a few points under 40 a night. Coming in at the 5th spot is Northwood Temple Senior Guard Josh Nickelberry, who has already signed his LOI with Louisville. The Eagles have looked to Josh to score the ball at a high level this season and he has not disappointed, finding numerous ways to put the ball in the bucket at 29 PPG. Right behind Nickelberry is a name that you may not know but he is burning up the nets at Smithfield Selma.
SS Senior Guard Anthony Council is averaging over 28 PPG, just under 50% from FG and over 40% from three point land. We expected him to have a nice season as we watched him during team camp during the summer but he has hit the ground running this year and has been very impressive. At #8 is South Brunswick HS Forward Jace Mckinney who has already signed his LOI to be a UNCP Brave next season. We like what Jace brings to a team from the scoring and rebounding perspective, he plays the game with a very high motor and does whatever it takes for his team to get a win. 28 points and 8 Rebounds a night is what he’s giving on a nightly basis, don’t be surprised if his averages get up to 30 and 10 before the season is over, he is that type of talent.
Rounding out the top 10 is Northside-Pinetown Junior Guard Rashod Smith. You may have heard of his high school before as it was the school that current Miami Heat Forward Bam Adebayo attended for 3 out of the 4 years of his career. Smith has put up some major numbers in the last two seasons with his average this season of 28 points and 7 assist per night. No schools have offered up to this point and his recruitment has been very quiet, if he continues to play at this level, then schools will have no choice but to get on board.
