Vote now for Wisconsin’s player of the week! Here is a breakdown of the 10 candidates:
Joey Platz – Milwaukee Marquette
Platz led Marquette to an 81-68 win over Wauwatosa East. The senior guard scored 32 points on 9-of-15 shooting. All of his made field goals came from 3-point range. Platz also notched seven rebounds and two assists in the victory.
Qwan Jackson – Milwaukee Lifelong Learning
Jackson and Milwaukee Lifelong Learning took on Division 4 heavyweight Milwaukee Academy of Science. The junior guard scored a game-high 44 points in the loss. Jackson currently leads the state in scoring, averaging a whopping 50.0 ppg.
Jacob Ognacevic – Sheboygan Lutheran
Sheboygan Lutheran won two games over Howards Grove and Cedar Grove-Belgium. In those outings, Ognacevic averaged 33.0 points on 17-of-23 shooting (73.9%), 13.0 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks.
Jacob Everson – Menasha
Everson went off for 35 points in a loss to Winneconne. The senior guard was 14-of-18 shooting (77.8%) and knocked down three triples. He also added six rebounds and six assists.
Dalton Banks – Eau Claire North
North improved to 4-0 with big wins over D.C. Everest and River Falls. Banks posted 30 points in each of those outings. He nearly averaged a triple-double for the week, adding 10.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game to go along with 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks.
Mayson Hazaert – Wrightstown
Wrightstown shot up to fourth in the Prep Hoops Division 3 rankings after wins over Marinette and Brown Deer. Hazaert averaged 33.0 points on 72.1 percent (31-43) shooting. He also averaged 9.5. rebounds 3.0 assists per game as well.
Jaden Kreklow – New Glarus
New Glarus remained No. 1 in the Prep Hoops Division 4 rankings, improving to 5-0 with wins over Forreston and Mauston. Kreklow averaged 31.5 points per game in those two victories, including 35 points over a ranked Mauston squad.
Trey Zastrow – Manitowoc Lutheran
Manitowoc Lutheran went 3-0 last week with wins over Saint Mary Catholic, Sheboygan Country Christian, and Kewaunee. Zastrow averaged 31.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. He shot a combined 59.0 percent from the field, including 48.2 percent from 3-point range.
Reed Gunnink – Laconia
Laconia split a pair of games, defeating Sheboygan Falls and falling 73-71 to Winnebago Lutheran. Gunnink averaged 26.0 points per game, while shooting 57.5 percent from the floor. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game last week.
Xzavier Jones – Martin Luther
Martin Luther knocked off No. 3 ranked Racine St. Catherine’s thanks to 28 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 assists from Jones, who was also 12-of-15 from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range. The Spartans also handled Kenosha St. Joseph. In that win, Jones posted 17 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals while shooting 7-of-10 from the field.
