It was at these events where I spotted and evaluated three unsigned senior point guard that Division II colleges and universities would drool over. Here are the floor generals:
C.J. Smith / 5’7″ / PG / Mansfield Timberview / 2019
The small guard had an incredible tournament as he was awarded MVP honors after averaging 18 points per game and leading Timberview to stellar victories over El Paso Burges, (#1 6A team) Denton Guyer, Killeen Shoemaker, and North Crowley. Smith is an electric scorer who can always make something happen within the offense. The lefty guard has always been a confident shot creator, but has also displayed an ability to make the right decisions while leading an offense. He is definitely known for taking risks, but Smith will definitely provide instant offense at the next level.
Davian Sanders / 5’10″ / PG / Wilmer Hutchins / 2019
Davian Sanders is leading one of the best 4A teams the state has to offer in Wilmer Hutchins. This weekend, he help lead the Eagles defeat impressive teams such as: Mansfield Legacy, South Grand Prairie, and Duncanville. Sanders uses his speed and quickness to blow by defenders and get to the rim anytime he wants. His penetration can lead to him finishing in traffic under the rim. It also can open up opportunities for others to score. He is capable of hitting the open jumper, but he is at his best when he uses his speed to his advantage and penetrates to the basket.
Tariq Aman / 5’9″ / PG / Coppell / 2019
Tariq has always been a great pass-first floor general. However, this year he has had to focus more on putting the ball in the basket due to the graduation of Grayson Early and the loss of Quevian Adger. With that being said, Aman is adjusting well. He is more comfortable facilitating full-time, but he has done a great job blowing by defenders and scoring in the paint while converting on open perimeter opportunities. The lefty is one of the quickest guards in the state. He is a true point guard that a coach can rely on to make the right decisions with the rock.
