Climbers are either players previously undervalued or possibly players that developed their game in the last few months.
These players represent ltop sophomore standouts (current 2021 ranking listed on left).
#13 Reese McMullen (Christian Brothers)
Slippery and efficient. Reese is more commanding on the floor this season. As a freshman he primarily scored on his own. He creates more for others and clearly possesses a better understanding of the offense Christian Brothers run.
#71 Eli Federman (Christian Brothers)
Speedy and competitive Eli Federman sprinted all over the court Friday night. Federman is as quick as anyone in the state from three-point line to three-point line. He pumps those legs with furious tenacity. Federman’s hands are slightly quicker than average, but his legs are what makes him dangerous. Federman is a nice scorer on a team filled with point guards.
#7 Kennedy Chandler (Briarcrest Christian)
Simply amazing. Chandler’s constant 20+ games are staggering. When will they become ordinary for him? Soon. No sophomore in the state is more certain to score 20 points every night he jogs onto the deck. Chandler’s outside shooting touch is among the best in the entire state, regardless of class. The #7 is definitely right there with Jalen Brown (Trezevant) and Eric Rivers (McCallie) for best sophomore point guard in Tennessee.
NA Jalen Tillery (Germantown)
Jalen Tillery didn’t do a ton for Germantown, but he moves well enough to be considered a relevant prospect. Tillery’s handle and agility look impressive as a sophomore. He can hit mid- range shots and occasionally finish in traffic.
NA Manny Strickland (Germantown)
Strickland dashed around the court creating small problems for the Christian Brothers team. Strickland is quite short and also dynamic with the basketball. GHS needed him to infuse the team with fourth quarter energy in a blowout loss.
#21 Terrance Burks (Ridgeway)
Nobody on Ridgeway was wonderful, but Burks gave six points to the cause. Burks looks like a wing longterm, but tends to help on the glass at this point in his development.
