Tuesday’s Games to Watch
Five games to watch during Tuesday’s WIAA boy’s basketball action…
Lake Mills (2-1) at Wisconsin Dells (4-0)
Wisconsin Dells is looking like a top challenger in Division 3 early this season. The Chiefs already knocked off Mineral Point and have resounding victories in their other three outings. Lake Mills could provide a stiff test. The L-Cats’ only loss this season came at the hands of Division 4 power Racine St. Catherine’s.
Milwaukee Madison (5-1) at Milwaukee Academy of Science (2-2)
MAS continues its loaded schedule with a challenge from Milwaukee Madison, one of the top teams in the City Conference. Two of the area’s best players will be on display Tuesday. Madison is led by senior forward Kyran Gaines, who is averaging 34.0 ppg. MAS features junior guard Kaleim Taylor, who is averaging 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists through four outings.
Racine Case (3-0) at Kenosha Indian Trail (4-1)
After Indiana Trail knocked off Racine Park, the Southeast Conference looks much more wide open. Indian Trail currently sits atop the standings and are getting nearly 20 ppg from sophomore guard Ezra Stargell. Case has one of the top sophomores in the season as well in JaKobe Thompson (22.3 ppg), who should provide a heck of an individual matchup.
Waukesha West (3-0) at Arrowhead (4-1)
These look like the two best teams in the Classic Eight Conference. A favorite to reach the state tournament, Waukesha West is loaded behind David Skogman (16.0 ppg), Chris Bready (18.3 ppg), and Cameron Palesse (18.3 ppg). Arrowhead will need a huge game from their star junior forward Carter Gilmore (24.2 ppg).
Brookfield Central (2-0) at Sussex Hamilton (0-0)
This is good enough to be a state title game. Being in the same sectional, these two teams will have to settle for early conference bragging rights. After winning the Greater Metro last season, the Lancers reloaded behind Gage Malensek (20.5 ppg), Cole Nau (11.0 ppg), and David Joplin (16.0 ppg). Sussex Hamilton makes their first appearance since the 2018 state semifinals and are led by the nation’s No. 1 ranked player in 2021 Patrick Baldwin Jr.
Others: Catholic Memorial at Muskego, Winneconne at Wautoma, Brookfield East at Wauwatosa West, Brown Deer at Milwaukee Lutheran, Roncalli at Saint Mary’s Springs, Waunakee at Beaver Dam, Neenah at Appleton West
