Top Performers: City of Palms Classic (Day 3)
Day 3 was a light one at the City of Palms Classic at Suncoast Credit Union Arena at Florida Southwestern College on Wednesday. Three games were played with the 3-point shootout and dunk contest taking place afterward.
Here are the results:
New Jersey Immaculate Conception 76, Charlotte 61
Virginia Oak Hill 96, Mississippi Olive Branch 59
McEachern 59, Paul VI 52
A look at the top performers from the day.
Cam Thomas & Cole Anthony (Virginia Oak Hill)
2020 guard Cam Thomas found fire in the first half and continued his hot offensive spark in the second half to end with a team-best 28 points. He shot 5-of-12 from deep and hit two straight 3’s in the second quarter to add 20 points in the first half alone. He really made things happen early on. 2019 guard Cole Anthony came on in the second half to finish with 19 points (5-of-9 from 3-point range) while 2019 guard Christian Brown (12 points) and 2019 guard Darrick Jones (19 points) each created buckets.
Isaac Okoro (Georgia McEachern)
2019 Auburn signee, Isaac Okoro had some highlight reel dunks including one late in the fourth quarter on a euro step move that wowed the crowd and put his team ahead. The senior is athletic as can be and is very sound inside. Okoro finished with 24 points. 2020 guard Sharife Cooper came on in the second half, ending with 15 points while 2019 guard Alyn Breed recorded 13 points doing most of his damage from long range.
Knasir McDaniel (Paul VI)
On Tuesday night, we saw just a glimpse of 2022 guard Knasir McDaniel can do. He played a complementary role and had bright moments as an offensive attacker. On Wednesday, he picked up two quick fouls but that didn’t stop him from controlling the tempo and simply taking over the game at times, finishing with 11 points.. The kid is a superb ballhandler. 2021 guard Trevor Keels led the team with 12 points while 2019 forward Joshua Oduro totaled 10 points.
Joe Cooper & DJ Jeffries (Mississippi Olive Branch)
It was the Joe Cooper and DJ Jefferies show for Olive Branch. Despite the overbearing loss to Oak Hill, 2019 guard Joe Cooper totaled 22 points which included 3-of-5 from deep. 2019 Memphis commit Jeffries paced him with 16 points and nine rebounds in an efficient night. 2020 guard Wes Taylor had eight points.
Elijah Hutchins-Everett (New Jersey Immaculate Conception)
2020 forward Elijah Hutchins-Everett was a problem all game for Charlotte. He had 19 points and 12 rebounds shooting very efficiently from the field (7-of-11). 2021 guard Amar’e Marshall (16 points), 2020 guard Zion Bethea (14 points), 2021 guard Jayden Brown (13 points) and 2020 guard Nick Jourdain (11 points) all reached double figures as well.
Ahmad Johnson & Makai Reaves (Charlotte)
I liked the way 2019 guards Ahmad Johnson (20 points) and Makai Reaves (17 points) each played for Charlotte. They both created and knocked down shots often for the Tarpons.
