Thursday’s Top Performances: Hoop City Classic
The first day of the Hoop City Classic was full of elite athletes playing against elite athletes and that was only the first day.

The weather didn’t disrupt the first day of games but disrupted the rest of the classic. Aberdeen girls and boys both dropped out of the tournament because of the weather leading to the new updated schedule.

Jaden Hardy – Coronado (Nev.)
Hardy continued his hot streak to start the season as he put up 28 points in an 81-69 victory over Dominican (Wis.). He also grabbed 10 boards, 4 assists, 3 blocks and three steals to come away with a double-double on the night. They will play again at 2 p.m Friday against Sioux Falls Washington at the Corn Palace.
Delone Austin – Dominican (Wis.)
In a game where leading scorer Alex Antetokounmpo struggled throughout the whole game, Austin picked up the scoring slack for Dominican. He scored 19 points and had 8 rebounds but that wasn’t enough as they lost to Coronado 81-69. They play next at 8 p.m. on Friday against No. 1 in (S.D.) Class AA Yankton at the Corn Palace.
Holt Bashinsky – Mountain Brook (Ala.)
Mountain Brook cruised to a 94-35 win over Lower Brule. The starting five for Mountain Brook only played an average of 13 minutes throughout the game and still managed to have four score in double figures. Bashinsky led the way with 18 points and seven boards. Colby Jones (14 points, 5 assists and 4 steals), Lior Berman (15 points and 5 boards) and Carter Griffen (10 points and six boards) all scored in double digits for Mountain Brook. They will play next at 3:30 p.m. on Friday against DeLaSalle (Minn.) at the Corn Palace.
PJ Fuller – Findlay Prep (Nev.)
Fuller didn’t disappoint the crowd that made the trek out to the Corn Palace in the snow. He was electric throughout the game. He posted a double-double, 21 points and 10 boards. He also had five assists and three steals. Blaise Beauchamp also scored 20 points for Findlay Prep along with five assists and eight boards. Findlay Prep will close out day 2 at the Corn Palace tomorrow facing off against No. 1 La Lumiere (Ind.) at 9:30 p.m.
Tyrell Terry – DeLaSalle (Minn.)
Terry led all players on the first day with 30 points and with that he scored his 1,000th point in high school. He also had 6 boards, 4 assists and 5 steals for DeLaSalle as they fell to Findlay Prep (Nev.) 78-68. Not too far behind was Jamison Battle he had 22 points and 8 rebounds. DeLaSalle got outscored 45-31 in the second half after leading by 4 going into halftime. They will play at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at the Corn Palace against Mountain Brook (Ala.).
Day 2 tip-offs at 11 a.m. with Mitchell girls taking on Waconia (Minn.) at the Corn Palace.
