The Holiday Classic: Salpointe Catholic Recap
This week was the The Holiday Classic, hosted by Torrey Pines High School. There were many teams that entered the tournament, with a ton of talented young players. I decided to take the trip out to San Diego and cover 4 of the AZ teams that entered the tournament. Those teams include: Shadow Mountain. Cienega, Mountain Pointe, and Salpointe. Here is the recap for Salpointe Catholic:
Day 1: Salpointe had a very favorable match up to a much smaller West Torrance team, winning 78-59.
Day 2: Salpointe continued to roll as they beat Bonita Vista 76-55.
Day 3: Salpointe meets its first challenge of the tournament and lose 69-50 to Santa Fe Christian.
Day 4: Salpointe beats Tesoro 74-61 in the 3rd place game.
Salpointe did win 3rd place but they won it in a weaker division. In my opinion, Salpointe should have entered the top division in order to challenge themselves. Two other AZ teams entered the top division and I thought Salpointe should have been in that mix (Shadow Mountain and Mountain Pointe).
