St. Mary’s and Grosse Pointe North will play at 6:30 p.m. Dec 28 to determine the champion. Here are ten of the best players I saw from the first day.
Lorne Bowman (St. Mary’s)
Bowman was incredible against the Crusaders, dropping 26 points and collecting five rebounds. He was scoring at will and making plays all over the court. He’s a very special player that can lead the Eaglets to big things.
Troy Herd (Grosse Pointe North)
Herd was dominant against Tower, scoring 23 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. He is an excellent ball handler that can get to the basket, and he also plays solid defense.
Lee Veasley (Warren Woods Tower)
Veasley was Tower’s MVP against Grosse Pointe North, as he dropped 17 points and grabbed two rebounds. He was flying all over the court making plays and doing anything he could to help his team win. He’s a very good player that will continue to get better.
Matt Bills (Warren Woods Tower)
Bills had an excellent day shooting the ball, knocking down seven 3-pointers and scoring 23 points. He also grabbed three rebounds and played solid defense throughout the game. He got into foul trouble which limited his minutes, but when he was on the court, he was making an impact.
Peter Nwoke (St. Mary’s)
Nwoke is going to be a great player. He’s a little overshadowed by Bowman right now, but he plays very well down low. Against the Crusaders, he had 6 points and seven rebounds. The sky is the limit for Nwoke, and I expect big things out of him in the future.
Joey Rheaume (Grosse Pointe North)
Rheaume impressed me a lot. He was very active on both ends of the court and finished the game with 10 points and 12 rebounds. He’s not going to score 20 points per game, but he is going to do the little things that lead to wins.
Micah Johnson (L’Anse Creuse North)
Johnson was one of two players that played well for L’Anse Creuse North. He had nine points and really controlled the game for his team. He is a solid ball handler that can find holes in the defense.
Kareem Rozier (St. Mary’s)
Rozier is one of the best passers in the state and he’s only a freshman. He was consistently leading the fast break and finding open teammates, which helped St. Mary’s pull away from L’Anse Creuse North. He is a very good player.
Hunter Levick (Grosse Pointe North)
Levick gave the Norsemen a huge spark in their win over Tower. He scored five points and grabbed four rebounds off of the bench and played solid defense throughout the game. Like Rheaume, Levick is a guy that is willing to do whatever is asked of him to help the team win.
Brian Bendo (L’Anse Creuse North)
Bendo had a very solid game for the Crusaders. He scored 10 points and knocked down two 3-point baskets. He was finding openings in the defense and making St. Mary’s pay for leaving him open. He should continue to get more looks going forward.
