With the season underway and closing in on the Holiday Break, Prep Hoops takes a look at several small school guards who have raised their profile in the early stages of the season.
Gabe Fisher, 6’5, F, 2019, Wichita Collegiate @GabetheFisher
Fisher is a unique, inside-out forward capable of stretching the floor with his outside shooting and perimeter skills. He is a strong rebounder and interior defender, but is able step out and play on the perimeter as well.
Jaden Gard, 6’4, F, 2019, Erie @Jadengard4
Also a standout quarterback, Gard is putting together a strong season for Erie, helping the Red Devils start the season 4-1 as he averaged a team-high 15.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
Tanner Halling, 6’7, F, 2020, St. John. @Tannerhalling44
St. John has made waves in basketball circles after producing Kansas State standout big man Dean Wade, and 2020 forward Tanner Halling appears to be the next big thing coming through the small school. Halling has good size at 6’7, 215-pounds, good athleticism and is putting up monster numbers. He is averaging 20.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game while shooting 60 percent from the field.
Mason Thiessen, 6’7, PF, 2019, Inman @thiessen10
Thiessen was among our favorite small school prospects from the summer as he had a strong summer with WCS Driven, showcasing a well-rounded, inside-out game, a big, strong frame and a soft shooting touch as well. He has helped Inman start the season 8-0 and a No. 1 state ranking in the latest Kansas 2A poll.
