Standouts from The Chick-Fil-A Classic
The 17th annual Chick-Fil-A Classic was held over the week at Richland Northeast High School in Columbia, South Carolina. This tournament is filled with some of the best players in the country for the main event of the tournament and some of the top teams in the Carolinas’ for the regional event. Here is a look at some of the top performers from the event.
6’8 F Supreme Cook (St. Benedict’s)-Long and active; finishes plays above the rim; under-recruited in my opinion; blocks/alters shots; good rebounder; good size; big hands; soft touch around the basket;
5’11 G Anthony Allen (Independence HS)-Strong shooting ability; now at 44% from 3 for the season; hard worker; gets after it on both ends; smart with a high basketball IQ;
6’8 F Issa Muhammad (Norcross HS)-Gets good position down low; strong upper-body; soft touch; good footwork; getting better; catching in paint and scoring;
6’5 W CJ Wilcher (St. Benedict’s)-Scorer; knows where to get his baskets; can score from all points on the floor; good size at the wing;
5’10 G Jovan McClanahan (Selesian)-Strong build; good shooter; tough; plays hard; quick first step; creates space;
6’8 F Tejon Sawyer (Salesian)-Big frame; moves pretty well for size; soft touch around rim; good feel for the game; rebounds area;
6’9 F Dischon Thomas (Hillcrest Prep)-Workhorse in the post; gets rebounds; blocks shots; defends; can shoot it; has a really good build; strong upper body
6’4 G Aaron Estrada (St. Benedict’s)-Shooter; good size; smooth lefty; good passing ability; would like to see him play a little harder; grades may be an issue; played on a non-shoe team this summer;
5’7 G Russell Jones (Westwood HS)-One of the top guards in the state, quickest player I have covered with the ball in their hands for a few years; skilled; strong handle; can create his shot off the dribble or can find the open man; great instincts;
