For players in the class of 2019, this is the most important time of their recruitment as it is about the last time they can prove their stock. While we already have a massive list of players, these guys detailed below are those that weren’t on our radar but are moving that direction.
Tewon Kelly – 6’4 SF 2019 – Irvington Prep (IN)
Probably the best of this group is Irvington Prep wing Tewon Kelly. The sizable wing does lack strength and weight right now but he’s very skilled and can produce at all three levels. With many players coming off of the board, especially at the wing spots, Kelly gives you a projectable one that has a ton of upside.
His ball handling and creativeness are solid now and will play well for NAIA and maybe some DII programs. Once in a college program, he should be able to add some weight and that could help his game really take off because of the areas he can score, at the rim is probably the weakest. Good perimeter jumper and mid-range pull-up. Shoots it well and should transition solidly.
When looking at where he would slot in for our depth chart in 2019 at the small forward position, he has more upside and production that a good amount of those guys still left on the board. Should be getting NAIA looks.
Creshaun Brown – 6’2 SG 2019 – Indianapolis Howe (IN)
For Creshaun Brown, he provides a college ready body and a dominant skill in his shooting ability. Think his handles are good enough to keep him pushed down roster as more of a 2 than a 3 but that all depends on his level. For DIII programs, would make a great 3 that could provide some physical and interior presence.
He’s built his game as more of a shooter and has the ability to mix it up inside a bit. But, he could do a lot more inside than he is now because of just how well he is built. He’s going to have to learn to really take advantage of his body on his driving attempts and flex the muscles to add another avenue of scoring. But, if he can do that and mix in some more rebounding ability, he’s got the chance to be a pretty good college player.
Should be getting those DIII and NAIA looks and while he could play NAIA well, provides a ton of interesting value for those DIII’s that prioritize shooting and rebounding from all positions. Probably quite a few guys at the 2 spot that would be harder for him to find college looks but as a small school 3 that can spread things out, should have a much easier time.
Jacob Denney – 6’2 SG 2019 – Roncalli (IN)
Every year, Roncalli seems to put out college level players and this year it might be Jacob Denney. The tall off guard has some intriguing skills and the size and IQ to really draw in those higher end DIII colleges. He’s not a big time athlete but makes plays with his agility and skill that can catch people off guard.
Built more as a drive-then-shoot guard, he’s very good getting to the rim and finishing, showing off his skill with either hand. Can make things difficult for defenders because he’s a little deceiving but capable of finishing in a variety of ways. Can shoot the ball and should get better/more productive with time.
For colleges looking for guys that have been coached up well and has all of the necessary skills to play as an off-guard, Denney has it and probably more so than other guys he will be going against looking for offers. DIII programs should give him a look as many players at the SG spot still on the board have baggage but Denney seems as solid as you are going to find.
Ryan Bostic – 5’11 PG 2019 – Decatur Central (IN)
Ryan Bostic is a little chaotic with the handles and breakdown ability but you want him to do it more and more as you watch him. A lefty, lead guard with a little length and a great pull-up game, Bostic has the makings of an interesting prospect that could blossom in college. He’s not going to beat out some of the high-end guys still left on the board at the point guard spot but has the offensive game to produce.
While he will need to find more separation on his drives to the rim, he has the speed and IQ to pick out spots to dish it off rather than go head on into defenders. Add that with his creation off the bounce, a skill that I think could still improve, and he has something not a lot of others in the state have really executed well. He’s more than just a shooter and it might not be until college before he really takes off but could be worth a flyer to see.
As far as on-ball guard, Bostic has a skill in that pull-up game where only a select few can produce as effectively as he showed. Would be a DIII look right now but he’s pretty close with his game on the drives and overall game production that he could still jump in front of guys by the end of the year.
Jalen Stamps – 5’11 PG 2019 – Indianapolis Howe (IN)
As we compared him to a taller Dean Tate, we think Stamps could be a really intriguing name to watch this year. He’s so physically set to go and has a really good perimeter jumper that there isn’t a ton more he would need to do to find minutes at the college level. Will rely upon his jumper and defensive ability to drive his value.
Stamps isn’t necessarily an all-around shooter as much as he is a perimeter shooter. Love his transition pull-up as he just looks really comfortable taking those without overtaking the game too much. Defensively, he has the physical ability to take on multiple guard spots and can be solid against taller guards as well. Not yet a lock down guy but isn’t too far off.
He’s a three-and-d guy at the next level who will play on the ball and there are always roles for those kind of players. Should find his way into DIII and NAIA radars sooner rather than later as he’s probably a tick better than some other guys still on the board.
