Saturday’s Top Performers at the Corn Palace: Hoop City Classic
The first two days of the Hoop City Classic took place at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, but the final day the majority of the games were held at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
The Corn Palace still had two high school games along with two college games on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Here are some of the top performers from the last two high school games:
Jamin Arend – Bridgewater-Emery
After almost pulling off an OT upset of Breckenridge, Bridgewater-Emery got back on the winning side against Mitchell Christian, 66-32. Arend led the Huskies with 21 points and also had 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
Trendon Watford – Mountain Brook (Ala.)
The 6-foot-8 power forward led Mountain Brook against Mitchell on the final day to an 89-44 win. He padded the stat sheet with 29 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks and 5 steals.
Sawyer Schultz – Bridgewater-Emery
The standout senior helped the Huskies cruise to a 66-32 win over in-state Class B foe, Mitchell Christian. He put up 17 points, 9 boards and 7 assists.
Ty Vander Pol – Mitchell Christian
The junior led Mitchell Christian with 12 points and 4 rebounds in the loss against No. 1 Bridgewater-Emery.
Chase Arend – Bridgewater-Emery
The 5-foot-11 junior almost had a rare double-double against Mitchell Christian. He had 18 points and 7 steals. He was three steals away from a point, steals double-double.
Caden Hinker – Mitchell
The freshman led the Kernels against No. 16 Mountain Brook with 13 points and 8 boards.
