Continue ReadingNorth Buncombe HS and the reigning District 12 Player of the Year Ren Dyer travel to West Henderson HS tomorrow for a match-up with WNC’s top 2020 guard Ben Bryson. North Buncombe has one loss on the season coming from Madison HS (Ren Dyer was out with ankle injury) and West Henderson is off to a 3-2 start overall.
Ren Dyer- 1. Bryson Coming off Huge Game on Friday-With West Henderson visiting county rival Hendersonville HS on Friday night, Bryson finished with 38 points in the loss but was head and shoulders above any guard The Bearcats could throw at him. Scoring at will from anywhere on the floor.
2. Dyer Remembers Last Year-Ben Dyer picked up his first D1 offer the last time the guard visited West Henderson scoring 46 points in only 2 1/2 quarters of action. He went out early in the first quarter with a shot to the face that would later require stitches. At the time, Assistant Coach Anquell McCollum of Western Carolina University offered Dyer a scholarship but with the staff being let go, the new staff did not honor the scholarship.
3. Two Definite College Prospects Going At Each Other-College basketball prospects have came out of WNC, don’t get wrong, but its not at a high rate. This game will feature 3-4 players that can play at the next level. From Division One to Division Three, Ren Dyer, Ben Bryson, Jack Rithie, Malachi Hammond and JT Laws all have a shot at playing beyond high school.
4. Big Time Players Rise to Occasion-Big time players always bring their best game when the atmosphere is right. Tomorrow night is going to be one of those times. Ren Dyer and Ben Bryson both feed off of the crowd and are going to be the stars of the night tomorrow. I expect big games from both. This is also Dalton Whitt’s return to his former school. He played at West Henderson HS last season.
5. Big Conference Game-This is a huge WMAC conference game tomorrow and will get an early idea of just how good both teams are. North Buncombe returns everyone for the majority and West Henderson has the star of the 2020 class in WNC.
