Suffering the injury in a loss to Fennimore, Reed remains optimistic the Eagles can get back on track upon his arrival, if not before.
“That was tough,” Reed told Prep Hoops Wisconsin. “The guys are working hard, I’m going to work hard as soon as I get back, and we’re going to get through this.”
On Monday, Barneveld was dropped 58-37 by Wisconsin Heights, however took comfort in a moral victory during a 52-42 loss at Darlington on Thursday, in a game that was a one-possession contest with roughly two minutes remaining.
“We didn’t play well on Monday at all,” said Reed. “From there to now, that was a huge step. The guys competed all night and finished the game together.
“It was a huge step.”
The 6-foot-3 point guard landed his first scholarship offer from Northern Michigan in June. However, Reed and the Wildcats appear to have parted ways.
“It definitely was still there, but we stopped talking,” Reed said of the offer. “They wanted me to commit earlier. I was not ready. I don’t know where that’s at.”
Other Division 2 schools such as Emporia State and Purdue-Northwest are involved with Reed at this time. Reed said the Hornets appear most interested.
“I’m talking to them a lot,” he said. “They contact me almost every day. They want me to keep working hard, they’ll come see what I got, and we’ll go from there.”
As a junior, Reed averaged just shy of 12 ppg and was one of the bigger breakout performers in the state over the spring and summer. Reed is also hearing from a few junior college programs as well as Division 3 programs, including UW-Platteville.
“I want teammates and a coaching staff I can feel close to,” he said. “An area that I like.”
Barneveld goes for their first win of the season on Tuesday against Pecatonica.
