The solid 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward has been absolutely sizzling recently for Stayton High School and he’s hoping to keep on cooking. After notching a school-record 44 points on Wednesday, Anundi followed that up with a 36-point, 13-rebound performance on Thursday night, completely dominating the paint with a whole host of post moves and short jumpers.
“Right now, me inside is working the best for us, so that’s where I’m staying,” Anundi said. “I’ve been playing with these guys for as long as I remember and we’re all super close. We’re always on the same page on the court and we flow really well together.”
Anundi scored in a variety of ways against Molalla, both with his back to the basket and facing the hoop. While he mainly set up on the left side of the block and attacked with his strong left, he did make a few plays going to his right as well. Anundi not only hit the boards but also blocked a couple of shots, and did so without getting into any sort of foul trouble.
A number of college programs continue to monitor Anundi this season, including a couple of Division II programs who have been in close contact with the senior. “I’ve really been talking to Chico State right now – I think I’m going to visit there after the season,” Anundi said. “Western Oregon is interested as well, and I’m interested in them – I’ve been thinking about becoming a teacher and I know that Western has really good education programs.”
Stayton head coach Joseph Kiser adds on that Carroll College in Montana has been calling, as has nearby Corban. Linfield has invited Anundi and teammate Riley Nichol to attend an upcoming game on campus as well. Anundi is keeping all of his options open, playing out his senior season which he feels has a lot of potential.
“I think we can be a top ten team for sure,” Anundi said. “It just depends on our defense. If we’re locked down as we have been, I think we can compete with anyone. Scoring isn’t a big problem for us, but we need to lock down defensively. I think that Saturday against Seaside is going to be our real test on where we are on our season and how we are as a team.”
Anundi currently ranks as the #23 player in the PrepHoops Class of 2019 rankings.
