Continue ReadingIsaiah Gross was the best player on the floor in a game with several high division one prospects, and other mid major division one prospects. Listed at 6’3, but in reality about 6’2, Gross stood tall last night against a nationally ranked opponent and dropped a game-high 34 points while showcasing a smooth catch and shoot jumper.
“Our mindset coming into this game was no different than any other game,” he stated. “Locking in, be ready to make plays, execute, and be ready to fight. Every game isn’t given. Every game is going to be a battle, a dogfight, etc.”
With his team trailing by 20 points in this game, Gross stayed positive and encouraged his teammates to continue defending. He consistently communicated and made sure everyone was doing their job.
“We’ve been in worse situations before,” he said. “In the games you just have to buy in and execute.”
Gross mentioned that his mentality is the most underrated part of his overall game. He might not pass the initial eye test, but he is clearly a relentless and fierce competitor on the court. Another thing that stood out about gross in this game was his shooting. He hit a couple of threes, and went perfect from the foul line.
“That’s definitely one of the most improved areas of my game,” he stated. “I’ve been working on free throws and my jump shot for a long time.”
Right now, Gross has four scholarship offers to choose from. He previously had a fifth, from North Carolina A&T, but it was pulled back after they received a commitment. Shepherd, Gannon, Concordia (NY), and Chestnut Hill are the schools who’ve offered Gross. He remains humble and focused on the team goals rather than personal accolades.
“My goal is the same as my teammates. Not going to college with a naked finger. My goals and my team goals are to win the 4A State Championship.”
Gross has over a 3.0 GPA and will be receiving his SAT Score soon. Some coaches question what position he is, but there’s no doubt he can play.
“I can play the 5, I can play the 4. I’m versatile. Whatever you need me to do, I can do.”
Gross says he’s working to improve his finishing in traffic by staying focused once he receives contact as well as ball-handling. He shot 40% from three last year, and the jump shot looks good once again so far this year. What can he bring to a college program?
“Energy, motor, and leadership.”
