Over time, Weber has shown the ability to consistently stretch the floor, but also adds value as an out of area rebounder who plays with a high motor and jumps out of the gym.
“Right now I’m hearing from the same schools as I did a couple months ago,” said Weber after going for 25, 9 and 7 which was good enough to earn MVP honors in O’Connell’s win over Westlake at the DMV Tip-Off on Saturday.
The schools Weber mentioned were High Point, Siena, and most recently Towson. He says that members of the Tigers coaching staff recently came in to see him, but they have not offered yet. Weber doesn’t plan to commit until possibly after the season as he hopes to attract more possible suitors over the course of the season. Right now he is focused on the task at hand with his current team.
“I just want to get that ‘ship. That’d be nice,” he stated. “This is probably the best game we’ve had as a team. We’re working on playing together, and if we can do that we’re going to be unstoppable.”
Strength and lateral quickness are some things that high major division one programs have told us they would like to see Weber work on. There’s no question he can contribute to a division one program with his ability to make shots and rebound, and over time can improve both of those attributes, but for now he should continue to be an reliable asset for what looks like a very good O’Connell team with serious potential.
Charlie Weber is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-10 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Virginia’s 2019 class, click here.
