Recruiting Report: Bryce Hopkins (2021)
Fenwick 2021 small forward Bryce Hopkins is on an absolute tear this season as a sophomore! You could see growth in his game from spring to summer with the Illinois Wolves on the 15U level, but being the best player on your high school team in the Chicago Catholic League as a sophomore and putting up the type of numbers he is consistently is insanely impressive. Hopkins has gone for 30+ points on multiple occasions including against their rival OPRF at the Chicago Elite Classic. What was that game like?
“It was great. It was a great atmosphere. We lost to them last year, but the previous six years we had beaten them so coming off that L last year we had to come in with a different mindset.”
He spoke about his season to date.
“It has been going great. We are young and have a lot of growing to go. Everyone has been underestimating us with the transfers we have had. We are going to be good this year. I have been doing good. I am averaging around 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists per game.”
What does he attribute his growth as a player to?
“Shooting for sure. Driving to the basket my percentages have been up. My mid-range game has gotten better too.”
With the transfers of Steward and Nixon he is now the guy as a sophomore. How has that been for him?
“It is big. It is new to me. Last year I was behind all of them and with all of them leaving they handed it down to me.”
What is the latest with recruiting?
“I have interest from Iowa as they came out to watch us. Northwestern has been there. Ohio State as well. Right now I have offers from Nebraska, Miami (OH), Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Loyola.”
He says that he would like to get out to some Big 10 programs for games.
“I want to go to Nebraska for sure. Also Iowa and Ohio State again.”
