Joel does a good job of using his height and vertical abilities to rebound the ball on both sides of the ball and finish high above the rim. He has shown that he can knock down some jumpers but the thing that really stands out with him is his ability to produce around the rim. A lot of this play we have seen from him is because of this past summer.
“Summer was good, a lot of grinding, I really worked on my game in every aspect because I want to be able to score at every level and every possession and I was working on that because I want to be as consistent as I can be so overall it was a really good summer.”
Like mentioned in the beginning, one thing that really stood out was his ability to play above the rim and he spoke on that, ““I have been working on my body, trying to get stronger and my vertical is good so I am trying to use it as much as possible to grab rebounds, to finish strong because I don’t feel like there are a lot of people that can dunk as high as I can so I feel like it is one of my best attributes.”
Right now three schools have offered Joel but I would think this list could increase a little bit if some school comes in late and really needs someone that can finish inside, rebound the ball and be a rim protector. James Madison, Norfolk State and Radford have all offered and he discussed those schools with us.
James Madison: “They are a school that is in Virginia and they are rebuilding the team and are starting to get a lot of good pieces.”
Norfolk State: “They are a good team that is in division one, they play hard and I like that.”
Radford: “They are a really good team, I had the opportunity to go for an official visit and I really liked the campus. It is like a family and they play hard. It has a good environment and they treat each other like a family.”
