Carson Arenz – 2020 – PF – Onalaska
Arenz gets overshadowed on the AAU circuit, but it was nice to see him as the featured player on Friday. Arenz scored a game-high 22 points against a very good Waukesha West club. Arenz got things started from 3-point range, connecting on four triples. A smooth spot up shooter who also works well in the pick n’ pop game, Arenz is quite reliable from downtown. Arenz also had success taking the ball to the rim and converted some tough finishes inside against a stout West front line.
Larry Canady – 2019 – G – Racine Park
You can’t tell us that there isn’t a Division 1 program that could use Canady next season. In a high level matchup against a very sound Mount Horeb squad, Canady scored a game-high 24 points. With Racine Park struggling, Canady put Park on his back late in the first half and early in the second to help the Panthers rally. A player that’s come so far offensively over the last three years, Canady can score consistently from all three levels and that includes fading away from the rim. Even if he doesn’t score a point all night, you always know Canady is going to do his job defensively. One of the top perimeter stoppers in the state, Canady has shut down ability as well.
Aidan Clarey – 2020 – G – Brookfield Academy
Like the way Clarey moves without the basketball, cuts into open space, and gets into high percentage areas. Clarey makes the game really easy on his teammates and hard for defenders to track him all over the floor. Clarey hunts catch and shoot opportunities, but will also flash into the high post or on the block. A strong 3-point shooter, Clarey can get hot in a hurry and keep it going for 36 minutes. Clarey was also very active defensively, chasing shooters around the perimeter and cutting off a number of potential drives to the rim without fouling. He finished with a game-high 17 points in the win.
Brayden Dailey – 2021 – F – Mineral Point
Dailey was big time down the stretch for Mineral Point. After Milwaukee Academy of Science rallied to take a late lead, Dailey hit a cold-blooded 3-pointer to put his team back in the driver’s seat. Dailey answered every rally from the Novas all game long and finished with 27 points. A versatile forward with a sweet shooting stroke, Dailey is a big time scorer that can reign down shots from anywhere on the floor. He’ll surely rack up mid-major offers here soon and get strong looks from power-five schools as well.
Max Kunnert – 2021- SG – Brookfield Academy
Kunnert is his team’s fifth-leading scorer, but could be the go-to guy on a lot of teams. The sophomore guard scored 10 points in Friday’s win over Manitowoc Lutheran, knocking down some impressive shots. Kunnert has a smooth mid-range game and gets great lift on his shot. It’s obvious that Kunnert spends extra time in the weight room and has an advanced build for his age.
Logan Landers – 2021 – PF – Brookfield Academy
This kid is going to be a darn good player. Landers can do a little bit of everything with the basketball. He can shoot from 3-point and mid-range. He can also handle the ball and play with his back to the basket. Landers is even a threat in transition, going coast-to-coast for a dunk in the first half in Friday’s win over Manitowoc Lutheran. Landers isn’t as athletic as you’d like for 6-foot-8, but has a really good frame and enough upside with his skill set that should be able to catch some Division 1 looks.
Nick Otto – 2019 – SF – Xavier
There’s no doubt about it, Otto can shoot the rock. The senior wing came up with 27 points and 10 rebounds in Friday’s win over Pius XI. Otto was 9-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. The sharpshooter has a very quick stroke and doesn’t need a ton of space to be in a rhythm. Otto did a little bit of everything on Friday, registering three steals, two assists, and a block in the victory. Division 3/NAIA schools should be taking a hard look here.
Tyrell Stuttley – 2020 – F – Onalaska
A kid that looks poised to make some noise this spring, Stuttley performed very well against Waukesha West. The junior forward scored 21 points, showcasing a high upside and budding skill set. Stuttley had some impressive moves down on the block and took it right at the Wolverines on numerous occasions. Stuttley has a good blend of bounce and strength, which he uses well in the paint. He’s not a big threat outside yet, but Stuttley handles the ball very well for his size and has mismatch potential. He also throws one heck of an outlet pass and got Onalaska numerous transition points with his ability to grab a rebound and lead his teammates down the floor.
Kaleim Taylor – 2020 – PG – Milwaukee Academy of Science
Was really impressed by the poise and decision making that Taylor showed down the stretch in a loss to Mineral Point. With MAS trailing by double digits, Taylor led his team back with timely buckets. A strong, athletic lead guard, Taylor is a high volume scorer that’s tough to keep away from the rim. His jumper hasn’t been great this week, but Taylor shot it better on Friday. When he is hitting from the outside, he’s a nightmare to handle due to his upper body strength and slashing ability. Taylor finished with 20 points in the loss, most of which came after the break.
Casey Verhagen – 2022 – PG – Sheboygan Lutheran
Jacob Ognacevic might be the star for Sheboygan Lutheran, but Verhagen is the engine that makes them run. Verhagen puts a ton of pressure on the defense with his advanced ball handling and probing skills. Verhagen is terrific with the ball in his hands, able to blow by defenders and see things before they happen. Always in attack mode, Verhagen only knows one speed — all out. He needs to cut down on his turnovers, but Verhagen appears to be one of the better playmakers in the 2022 class. He finished with 16 points in Friday’s win.
Eric Williams – 2019 – G – St. Thomas More
Really enjoyed watching the overall activity of Williams. A strong, athletic guard, Williams converted some tough drives at the rim, going through contact in Friday’s loss against Sheboygan Lutheran. Williams consistently plays above the rim and had some huge blocks defensively as well. The 6-foot-2 senior can play on or off the ball. When he gets to his right hand, it’s almost over for defenders, who can’t match his blend of strength and athleticism on the dribble drives. Williams finished with a team-high 21 points.
Owen Ziegler – 2020 – SG – Mount Horeb
What a shooting display Ziegler put on in the first half against Racine Park. Ziegler connected on five triples to help Mount Horeb get off to a great start. The junior guard nailed six 3-pointers on the night en route to 18 points. Despite having the hot hand, Ziegler didn’t force shots. He continued to play within the offense, which allowed him to knock down a handful of shots from beyond the arc consecutively.
