There are some very talented young men in Michigan, who are just as talented with their schoolwork. Prep Hoops Michigan recently released its 2019 Prospect Rankings. Inside those rankings are some excellent student-athletes. We will look at players who are ranked, that also carry at least a 3.0 GPA. The good news for college coaches: All 8 of the athletes are uncommitted and ready to be recruited.
Caleb Bates (6’7″, F, Lake Shore)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #21
GPA: 3.4
Bates is a beast on the basketball court and in the classroom. He is a double-double machine who can score from the perimeter and the paint. Bates is a physical player with a college ready body. He’s a Division 1 talent.
Trevor Boers (6’9″, PF, Capac)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #28
GPA: 3.0
Boers is one of the fastest rising pospects in Michigan. He can bang in the post, but can also step out and drain a jumper from behind the arc. A college coach will be getting an excellent student who is a rapidly improving player.
Nmeso Nnebedum (5’10”, PG, Kalamazoo Loy Norrix)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #65
GPA: 3.0
Nnebedum is as intelligent in the classroom as he is on the court. He’s known as a high IQ player who runs an offense efficiently and smoothly. Nnebedum can effectively run an offense at any tempo.
Bralin Toney (5’10”, PG, River Rouge)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #68
GPA: 3.7
Toney is a leader in the classroom and on the court. His teammates call him “The General” for a reason. Toney will do all the little things in order to see his team win. He recognizes good shots and is efficient when they’re available.
Quinn Starkey (6’3″, PG, Chelsea)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #83
GPA: 3.93
It’s hard to find a weakness in Starkey’s game, and he certainly has no weakness in school. He’s a skilled 3 level scorer. Starkey can drive the lane and finish with a mid range jumper or dish to an open teammate.
Evan Metz (6’0″, G, Hartland)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #88
GPA: 3.5
Metz had a big spring and summer in basketball, and he’s continuing that performance in the classroom. Metz can shoot the deep ball and is a solid defender. He is a good rebounding guard who isn’t afraid to play a physical style.
Mark Dickerson (6’1″, PG, Calvary Baptist Academy)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #149
GPA: 3.5
Dickerson has a reputation as a hard worker in the gym and at school. He’s a team player who’s willing to lay it on the line to get the win. Dickerson has had a big start to this season, showing the ability to score in bunches.
Laurence Dallas (5’10”, PG, Canton Prep)
Prep Hoops Michigan Ranking: #190
GPA: 3.5
Dallas is a grinder on the court and in school. He is a steady and efficient lead guard. Dallas contributes in multiple ways, running the offense and distributing to teammates.
