A guard that can do a little bit of everything well, Middleton can handle the ball, make plays off the dribble, shoot from the outside and play off the ball where he is a slashing wing player. He can score in the paint and has a natural feel for making plays.
He spent the summer competing for Primetime Ballerz, a squad made up of Lawrence-area 2020 players that mostly played up an age group. Middleton said the experience helped his game grow.
“It helped me playing up with prime time because on varsity it doesn’t matter about grade it’s how good you are so you could play kids that are stronger and bigger,” he says.
Middleton mostly focused on improving his pull-up jumper, his shot overall, including his free throw stroke.
Already this season Free State is off to a strong start despite introducing several newcomers to the varsity line-up after the Firebirds graduated several talented seniors from last year’s squad.
“We are young but we are athletic good the defensive end and can get out in transition,” Middleton says.
A fan of the Houston Rockets’ point guard Chris Paul, Middleton says his mom has had the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“My mom she helped me get started and she pushes me to get better and tells me what I need to work on,” he says. “I like watching Chris Paul his basketball brain is how I want to be and the way he passes the rock I love it i try to throw passes like him and I try to think like him.”
