Continue ReadingTyler Savage brings the best of both worlds as a true student-athlete. The versatile athlete, who is a standout on the basketball court as well as the gridiron, currently has a 3.4 GPA and is taking two AP classes. Savage mentioned that he is not receiving as much college interest for basketball as he is for football, but hopes that will change soon.
“For football, I’m getting heavily recruited by schools like Syracuse, Wake Forest, JMU, and UNC,” said Savage.
On the basketball court, Savage is a good athlete who showcases a high motor. He excels at running the floor and finishing at the rim, but is also a reliable shooter. At the Glory Days Tournament last week, Savage demonstrated a smooth one and two dribble pull up mid range as well as the ability to knock down threes in spot up situations.
Over time, Savage has grown into a much bigger role with the team. Right now, he is considered a leader who provides scoring when his team needs it. He understands how important communication is to his new role.
“I’m working on being more vocal,” Savage explained. “Last year we had a good team, but I wasn’t as vocal cause I was younger.”
Savage is also working on his foot speed as well as getting bigger and stronger. He says he would like to finish out his high school career as an AB Honor Roll Student, graduate with an advanced diploma, and go to a good school.
“I want to be the best version of myself as I can be and not letting outside critics bother me as much,” he said.
What can Savage bring to a college program?
“Definitely athleticism. I can definitely fill a leadership role, and outwork kids. That’s my goal: to outwork everyone in the room. That’s what my football coach says. Outwork everyone.”
