The son of Kansas assistant coach Fred Quartlebaum, Trey brings athleticism, the ability to attack the basket and shoot the 3, score in the mid-range or get all the way to the basket.
He spent the offseason competing for KC Run GMC and says the experience challenged him to step his game up.
“Playing for my summer team was very fun and challenging for me at the same time,” he said. “Always playing against some of the best players in the country, i always have to go 100 percent and be at my best. This has helped my confidence a lot going into the high school season.”
Quartlebaum has since committed to play at St. Francis Brooklyn, choosing the school over several other programs that showed interest.
He says he spent the offseason focused on getting stronger and faster with the ball and finishing through contest.
One of several experienced players returning this season for Lawrence, Quartlebaum says expectations are high for the Lions.
“We have a really deep team this season,” Quartlebaum said. “We return a lot of guys back from last year and have a good mix of young guys and experienced guys so we think we have a good shot at the state championship this year.”
A fan of Steph Curry and Russell Westbrook, Quartlebaum says his dad has had the biggest impact on his basketball career to date.
“My dad has been the biggest influence in my career,” he said. “He’s always giving me the tools to get better and he pushes me to be the best player I can be.”
