Continue ReadingSheldon Clark Sophomore Trey James has to be one of the most widely heard of players in the state in the 2021 class. The big man from the mountains has been starting varsity for two seasons already and set the single season blocks record just last year as a freshman. After playing up two grade levels on the AAU circuit this year, James got back in the gym and tried to improve his game and become more versatile, “In the pre-season I worked on ball handling and shooting a lot so that I don’t have to rely on staying in the post to score.” After playing up all AAU season, Trey attracted some high major programs. He told me, “So far I’m being recruited by Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, Purdue, Ohio State, Western Kentucky, Marshall and Morehead State.” While he holds no offers at this time, Trey has been on campus at most if not all of those schools.
Coming off a freshman season that had to be disappointing from a wins and losses perspective, the big Sophomore has big goals. “My team goals are just like everyone else’s and that’s to go to Rupp Arena and represent out school at the state tournament.” After losing 2 starters to transfer over the summer, the Cardinals of Sheldon Clark are going to have their work cut out for them. Trey has also set some big goals for himself as an individual. “My personal goals this season are to beat JR VanHoose’s career shot blocks record (soon to be Isaiah Cozart’s record). Right now I’m 163 away which can easily be done this season. Another goal is to break my own record for single season blocked shots and beat my single game record of 17 blocks.” Trey has been no lower than third since our class of 2021 rankings debuted last year but he doesn’t see any added pressure. He told me, “I don’t feel pressured at all from the rankings or really anything. I’ve always been told to just play no matter who’s there and who I’m going against.” Trey James is a top player in the state because of his size and shot blocking ability. He’s a good prospect to track over the next three years and I’m interested to see how much he develops between now and graduation. His ceiling could be that of an all time great big man in Kentucky.
