Names like Isaiah Mason and Turner Buttry are more widely known around the state but Sophomore Trace Flanary is a solid player in his own right and should be a large part of the future for the Purples. Flanary is a 6’4 forward who plays primarily in the post but has the ability to stretch the floor and play some on the wing. Heading into his sophomore year, Trace has put the work in to improve his game, “Not only before the season but all throughout the year I work on my game to try and be the best version of my self on and off the court.”
The Sophomore forward has set his sights on helping the Bowling Green team anyway that he can, “I have a goal for myself to come out everyday (practice or game) and just be a leader and do the right things to help my team be in the best situation to come out and win games.” Trace has also set some big goals for the Bowling Green program this season, “I have high expectations as a sophomore for our older guys. Our senior leadership is great and I think that if everyone on our team gives it there all we will have a shot at state.” Trace has yet to attract the attention of any college coaches but that’s not unusual for a high school sophomore, “As of now I don’t have any offers or interest , but my goal for that is to just work hard everyday and let everything fall into place and college coaches will start taking notice.” But his immediate focus is on making an impact for his high school team, “Right now I’m trying to work as hard as I can to have an impact on the varsity floor.” With nearly 3 full years of basketball ahead of him, Trace has aspirations of helping his team to several championships and a reputation as a hard worker. He told me, “Before I graduate high school I’d like to accomplish a lot. Some team accomplishments I’d like to have is to win district, region and state before I graduate . But personally I’d like to leave high school with a good name and known as a hard working player.” If Flanary keeps working hard, he will help his team achieve those goals. Trace is one to track over the next several years.
