So much so that he picked up his first scholarship offer for basketball by North Arkansas’ assistant coach Jordan Hunter following his team’s game against Nixa.
A strong and athletic 6’2 guard, Campbell is a fiery competitor who can do a little bit of everything well. He can handle it, pass it and has a nice mid-range game, able to pull up off the dribble and knock down shots.
He spent the offseason competing for Arsenal Hoops and says the experience has helped prepare him for the season.
“Playing with Arsenal Hoops over this past summer has been so much fun, helping me get some exposure and preparing me for the intensity of high school basketball,” Campbell said. “This offseason I spent in the gym, especially over summer, for about three to four hours a day I would get into a gym and workout by myself with no distractions. This really took my game to another level. Being a gym rat and working on my game was a huge step I made this past year.”
Lafayette is off to a 2-3 start this season with wins over Nixa and Parkway Central and a close loss to Summit.
“My high school team this year is unselfish and everyone is totally on the same page,” Campbell said. “Every player on this team is 100 percent for the team’s success. We pick eachother up when we’re down and we look to set eachother up as much as possible. I can’t imagine playing for another high school, I feel that this year, Lafayette can really make a run in the playoffs.”
Campbell says his dad has been a big part of his basketball career to date.
“His goal was to get me a scholarship and a free education in college through basketball,” Campbell says. “Hopefully, I can achieve this goal. I’ve always wanted to play basketball in college. My father and I are excited for this season as well as nervous, but I’m hopeful all will work out. Also, Coach Landwehr has helped me a lot lately, helping me deal with pressure and other outside noise. I owe a lot to him when my high school career is over. Him and I have bonded so much throughout this past year and I am grateful to have him as my coach.”
A fan of Duke, Campbell says he grew up watching the program and enjoyed watching Grayson Allen.
“All four years, I watched almost every one of his games at Duke,” Campbell said. “As a teammate and a player, he was top notch. I loved the way people hated him. I’m the future I hope that I can earn that same hate from opposing fans because that is the ultimate example of respect.”
Campbell says he has only recently begun to reach out to college programs.
“I only recently started reaching out to colleges, hitting my growth spurt sophomore year,” Campbell said. “Which I understand height and athletic ability is a huge part of college recruiting. I sent my summer highlight reel to multiple D1 schools and got notable replies from Arkansas, St. Joseph’s, SIU Carbondale, and was invited to a college showcase camp … Certain D1 schools such as St. Joseph’s and Arkansas and Georgia have requested my first high school game film. So, as soon as I get the footage, I will send them my Nixa game tape.”
