At 6’3, Wittenauer is a strong athlete who handles the ball, can get down hill and attack the basket, looks to get his teammates involved and can score when needed.
He spent the offseason focused on football where he is a strong wide receiver, and while he didn’t play for a travel team, he says he was able to work with his high school team and improve its chemistry and says he focused on improving his outside shot.
This season, Mill Valley is rebuilding after losing several key players from last year’s squad, but Wittenauer says the team is dug in at the defensive end of the court..
“This year our team is really a defensive minded team we play team defense,” he said.
Wittenauer says his former MoKan coach, Jacob Derritt, has had the biggest impact on his basketball game to date.
“He really taught me how to work hard and how to have attention to detail with my game,” Wittenauer said.
A fan of NBA standout Ben Simmons, Wittenauer says he tries to take various elements of the 76er and make them his own.
“I really like watching Ben Simmons because of the way we always looks for his teammates and moves the ball and I try to apply that to my game by getting my teammates involved while also looking for my own shot,” Wittenauer said.
Although he has not yet heard from any college basketball programs, Wittenauer said he has talked to several NAIA college football programs.
