Prospect Spotlight: Mach Nyaw (2019)
After winning consecutive state titles with Class 1A power Grand View Christian, 5-foot-11 guard Mach Nyaw is now ballin’ with 3A Storm Lake, and has his sights set on another trip to Wells Fargo Arena.
Through three games, Nyaw has proven to be an ultimate play-maker. He’s averaging 19.7 points, 6.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game.
“I’m trying to be more of a scoring threat this year, and I think I’ve accomplished that. I’m working on passing and shooting and my percentages are going up,” said Nyaw.
He’s more the man this season than he’s been in year’s past, and is flourishing in that role.
“At Grand View, I was a little more of a role player and there were other leaders ahead of me. Over here, I have to be more of a leader, vocally and on the the floor,” said Nyaw. “And we have some younger players, so I need to lead them on and off the floor.”
A guy that will almost certainly play basketball after high school, Nyaw currently has an offer from NAIA William Penn. He visited Division II program Upper Iowa last month, and was recently called by Newbury, a D2 in South Carolina. A prep school, The Skills Factory in Georgia, has been talking to him as well.
Nyaw, though, is going to play out his senior season and see what happens.
“I don’t really know yet,” he said. “I just have to wait and see.”
