Continue ReadingSouth Oldham High School has been firmly in the mix for the 8th region title almost every year for as long as I can remember. Part of their tradition is having high IQ players who can really shoot the ball. The latest in that long line is Junior sharpshooter Luke Morrison. Morrison is a 6’5 wing who is off to a tremendous start for the Dragons this season. Luke is averaging 22 points per game through 4 games while shooting a ridiculous 61% from three and making 3.5 shots per game from beyond the arc. Heading into this season, Luke’s main goal was, “to get stronger. Also to tighten up my ball handling, particularly in the open court.” So far so good as Morrison has shown an improved ability to push the pace with the ball in his hands.
At this point, Luke is getting some early college interest from “Bellarmine, U Indy, the Naval Academy and Lipscomb.” Coming off an AAU season where he missed a large chunk of the season with a broken nose, Morrison is primed to draw some more coach’s eyes as the season moves along for the Dragons. Luke just wants to have a good season and help his team. When I asked him to identify some goals for the season, he told me “I would like to play to my full potential and assist my team in every way possible.” He’s also hoping to be able to compete for a berth at Rupp Arena in March, “The goals for my team are that we continue to improve throughout the season and put ourselves in a position to win the 8th region.” Prior to the start of the season we updated our Class of 2020 Rankings and Luke is slotted at number in the class. The higher ranking is just serving push Luke even more. He told me, “I try not to let rankings influence the way I play, however, I think it will make me work even harder.” The season is still very young but Luke Morrison is on track to have a huge season and parlay that into a few scholarship offers down the line. Regardless, his high character and academics are going to carry him a long way in life as he wants to go to medical school once the ball stops bouncing for him. If you have the chance, get a look at Morrison and South Oldham this season.
