At 6’3, Richardson says he models his game after LeBron James and takes pride in getting his teammates involved. He spent the offseason competing for Victor Williams and Team Rush and says the experience helped shape his game.
“One thing you’ll get out of playing for Team Rush is toughness and that competitive spirit,” Richardson said. “But the AAU season was great, I really took my game to a new level and expanded on a lot of things.
“This offseason I really stressed on my 3 point jump shot and getting that automatic. Just a lot of repetition and getting a really good feel for my shot.”
Richardson transferred to Schlagle during the offseason and says there has been adjustment period with a new coach and a new team.
“This high school season will be a learning progress, I’m a transfer coming to a new school with a brand new head coach and coaching staff but this season will be fun,” he says. “Expect to see Schlagle in the state championship game this year!”
Richardson says the biggest influence on his basketball career has been his mom and uncle.
“My uncle Jojo (my dads brother) passed away last year and I was really close to him so that was tough and ever since then I’ve always pushed myself on the court and on the field,” Richardson said. “My mom she’s my rock and has always been by my side since day 1 and I want to put her in a situation where she doesn’t have to work anymore.”
A fan of LeBron James, Richardson says he appreciates the NBA star’s ability to lead a team.
“Lebron is a leader and you can tell who the best player on the floor is every game and I take that leadership role on my team,” Richardson said. “It’s hard to lead through adversity especially in high school but I’ve definitely implemented that into my arsenal. And I also enjoyed watching Collin Sexton in the EYBL when he played and now in college. I love the energy that he brings to the floor and I definitely implement that when I’m playing.”
Also a standout on the football field, Richardson has drawn significant college interest from several programs, including North Dakota State, Army, Illinois State, Colgate, and Iowa State, Concordia Nebraska, as well as Nebraska for basketball.
“I expect more to roll in after all the bowl games finish up but it’s a long process and I love the journey,” he says.
