Isaiah Mason is a 6’4 wing who reminds me of Dontaie Allen at the same age. Similar build and skill set for Allen and Mason at the same age but I’m still waiting to see that dog mentality out of Isaiah. Mason told me that his goal this year is, “I want to improve my game in all aspects and be a big part of my team and show why I’m top 10 in the area.” As one of the most successful programs in Kentucky in the last decade, the pressure is always on at Bowling Green and this year is no different. Mason told me he expects success this season, “We’re trying to go to state this year but we are going to take it one game at a time and do whatever we can to improve. We’re hoping to have lots of team chemistry and the most important goal is for everyone to have a 3.0 GPA this season. We have been doing study halls to improve our academics.”
Coming into his Sophomore season, Mason told me, “I’ve been working on my off hand and becoming more like a point guard. I’ve worked on my ball handling and I’ve also been in the weight room working on getting stronger and been doing some leg work.” Isaiah has been fortunate to have some schools start recruiting him early in his high school career. Isaiah said, “I’ve been talking to a few schools like Miami Of Ohio and WKU a little bit but not very much as of now. I’m wanting to change that this year.” Mason continues to hover around the top 10 players in our 2021 rankings. He told me that he does feel some slight pressure from that ranking, “I know that people have really high expectations for me and they will only go higher and it kind of puts determination in me because I don’t want anyone to pass me I want to be the one passing others.” Regardless of rankings, Isaiah Mason is going to be a big factor in the fourth region this season. As one of the best sophomores in the state, he should be counted on to make a huge impact and I expect him to rise and meet the challenge over the course of the season.
