The lanky 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward/post is coming into his junior year ready to make more of an impact. Ainslie continues to develop as a player and really worked hard this off-season on his game playing AAU travel ball with Nike Team Northwest.
“It was a great experience – we got to travel everywhere and play against some of the great players in our class,” Ainslie said. “It was really fun to compete with my team and with my new family. Against the higher competition teams like at the Peach Jam, I felt like I competed very well against the competition and did my part. I did well with my rebounding and my defensive intensity.”
Through playing with Nike Team Northwest’s 16U squad, Ainslie got a chance to play in front of a lot of college coaches and he’s already started to get recruiting interest. Ainslie named Columbia and San Diego specifically as some schools in contact with him, and he’s also hearing from a number of other smaller schools in California.
“I just want the best that I can get to be honest,” Ainslie said. “Maybe somewhere warm, but I’m just trying to get the best fit for me so I can compete and win.”
It’s still early for Ainslie so he’s honed in on this year. He started off the season strong with a 13-point, eight-rebound performance in the season opener against Jefferson and he’s hopeful for even more in 2018-19. “I have high hopes,” Ainslie said. “I feel like we can get a ring this year. I want lead our team in rebounding and get defensive player in the year for our conference.”
Ainslie currently ranks as the #21 player in the PrepHoops Class of 2020 rankings.
