Prospect Spotlight: Curran Ingram (2020)
Already one of the more impressive players in his class before the season started, 6-foot-1 guard Curran Ingram has made himself one of Iowa’s biggest stock-risers through the first month of the high school season.
He’s currently the best scorer and rebounder on one of Class 2A’s best teams, Des Moines Christian. And he leads the Lions in steals, too.
Ingram has certainly been having himself a breakout junior season.
“My strength is athleticism and my finishing skills have improved since last year. I’m continuing to work on shooting,” he said.
Also a soccer standout, Ingram missed a big chunk of his 16U grassroots season because the Lions made a deep run in the state soccer playoffs.
“Last summer I didn’t really play much AAU because soccer and making it to the state championship. I played one tourney, though, and had one good game scored like 30,” he said.
His lack of offseason play did not impact his high school season success in the least. Currently, the athletic wing is averaging 15.8 points and 5.8 rebounds for a 6-2 Lions squad.
“This year at Des Moines Christian, we have a lot of talent so my role is to score and to make the team better by playing defense and sharing the ball,” said Ingram. “We are working through things figuring out who we are as a team this year.”
The recruitment may have been thwarted a bit because of his lack of 16U exposure this past spring and summer. But college coaches will be taking a close look at the skilled and bouncy guard before too long.
“Nothing major college-wise, only small ones. Hopefully more will come throughout this season,” said Ingram. “I’m trying to get that lights out 3-point shot and a cold jumper, and by doing that maybe the colleges will come to me.”
