A smooth and aggressive 6’5 wing player, Puyear is capable shot creator who can score for himself and others. He is averaging 19.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and is shooting 62 percent from the field.
Puyear says living in western Kansas made it difficult to find a summer team to compete with, but had an opportunity to compete with his high school team at several tournaments. He also took the opportunity to work on his individual skills, improving his all-around athleticism, his jump shot and his defense.
“Summer time hoops is always a fun time, it’s a great experience,” he said. “I think playing games throughout the summer is a great way to learn and prepare for the high school season.
Off to a 6-0 start this season, Stanton County returns everyone from a team that went to state last year and have high expectations the rest of the way.
Puyear says his older brother Keifer Puyear has had the biggest impact on his basketball career to date. Keifer averaged 19 points per game as a senior in 2015-16.
“My brother was an excellent basketball player and I had the opportunity to play with him my freshman year,” Creed says. “He has been a great mentor and I can always talk basketball with him.”
Puyear says he enjoys watching other high school basketball players compete and looks forward to competing against other players in his class.
“I really enjoy watching the other high school hoopers out there,” he says. “They are really good motivation because they are the same age playing at the same level. But when it comes to teams, I’ve been a big fan of the lakers and KU for years. I really like Marcus smart’s game, short guard but will bang with bigs in the post. Also always play hard.”
Although he does not currently hold any offers, Puyear says he has heard from several JUCOs, including Seward County, Colby and Northwest Kansas Technical College.
