Chase Pagon knows this all to well. After a solid junior year at Battlefield High in Virginia, the 6-2 guard’s family moved to California after his father’s job transfer.
But Pagon has made quite an impression in his first – and only – season with his new team, Santa Fe Christian. The hard-charging swingman was named to the San Diego Tip-Off Classic’s All-Tournament Team, and has impressed with his nonstop motor and relentless slashing.
“I focus a lot on driving, inside stuff,” Pagon said after Santa Fe Christian’s 87-47 win over Olympian to open the Grossmont Winter Classic. “I’m a hustle player so on defense, I usually guard the other team’s best player, and I’m always getting on the floor. Offensive rebounding is one of the best parts of my game.”
A self-aware Pagon said that he’s worked hard to improve one of his weaknesses, perimeter shooting.
“I’ve been really working hard these past two months with Coach Chad Bickley, who is a really good shooter,” he said.
Playing AAU for Team Pro Look in Virginia, Pagon said he garnered interest from Division III schools and Assumption College, a Division II school in Massachusetts.
But Pagon said he wants to stay in California for college, and is looking for a high-academic fit, such as one of the Claremont Colleges.
“I want to find a place that’s a good fit, both academically and with basketball,” Pagon said.
