LAGUNA BEACH, CA—Head Coach Bret Fleming, the reigning Orange County Register COY, has reason for more optimism with the emergeance of Nolan Naess.
Fleming had the luxury of mentoring Blake Burzell—who is currently at Arizona State on a baseball scholarship—launching deep jump shots for the Breakers in his 4-year varsity career. Now Fleming gets to teach Naess the nuances of the game—and Fleming has a lot to work with in the talented Naess.
Naess is an intriguing wing-type for the next level due to his skill and motorNaess is a 6-foot-7 sophomore with a gangly frame and bevy of energy. He can play inside-and-out due to his skill and IQ for the game. He sprints to the block where he can finish over either shoulder or step out and convert the 3-point shot. However, the most impressive aspect of his game is his ability to face-up defenders and blow by them for the finish.
Despite all the superlatives noted above, Naess still has much work to do to reach his potential.
“Playing more physical and getting stronger in the paint area are areas of my game I want to improve upon,” explains Naess.
With added strength and experience and continued polish on his overall skill set, the future is bright for Naess, especially under the tutelage of the offensive minded Fleming.
