HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA—Every coach knows the importance of having a quality point guard. The point guard is the coach on the floor per se, and Head Coach Rich Boyce has one in senior Kaden Headington.
The 6-foot-1 floor general plays with savvy and moxie. Headington has the ability to survey the game and then acts accordingly depending on what his team needs. He is equally adept and faciliating and scoring and he consistently puts opposing defenders on their heels.
Headington is true point guard who is equally adept at scoring as facilitating. While leading the break he can stop on a dime an nail the 3-point shot or hand out the appropriate pass to an open teammate—most likely to fellow senior 6-foot-3 Aiden Garnett. This experienced backcourt appears to have a special chemistry as witnessed by their play against Sunset League foe Laguna Beach where Garnett dropped 23-points and Headington added 13.
Due to his steady play and leadership, colleges are beginning to check in on Headington.
“Cal State San Marcos and Chapman are planning on checking out some of my games during the winter break,” notes Headington.
As January approaches and league wins become the focal point look for Headington and his teammates to focus on capturing a Sunset League title. With Headington and Garnett leading the way as well as up-and-coming sophomores 6-foot-1 sophomore Luke Serven and 6-foot-4 Connor Collins that goal should come into fruition.
