At a glance non-basketball fans would think that 6A Bingham would destroy a 2A team like LCA. Reality is that LCA is good and has the players and the size to compete with anyone.
Last year Bingham walloped LCA 70-46. This year LCA brings back their best player in 6’7 Lino Saez. Bingham loses a lot of key players and depth.
Both teams play tough schedules which we love. But it’s too early to tell how good Bingham can be.
Look for Layton Christian to get the ball and get up and down the court. They will likely try to get their big man going, but if he’s hampered with foul trouble it could be bad news for the Eagles.
The matchup we look forward to is Micha Petty of LCA vs. Jordan Toscano of Bingham.
The Eagles are the front runners to win State in 2A. Many teams in 2A don’t have the size, speed and skill that LCA does. That is why small schools like LCA usually beef up their schedules early in the year to get ready for a deep run at state.
Bingham on the other hand plays in the toughest region in the state. Every team in Region 4 could make a deep state run. The hard part is trying to make it to the tournament. Bingham is in somewhat of a rebuild season but they will still compete.
Both of these teams will represent Utah in the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas and should fair well like they usually do. We give the slight edge to Bingham even though LCA will have homecourt advantage. This game should be closer than last years game though.
Good luck to both teams.
