BOLD, Willmar and New London-Spicer all have state tournament caliber teams at the A, AA, and AAA levels. Matchups featuring those teams against each other should be in store.
Here are some players to watch:
Carter Henry, Sr., BOLD
One of the top unsigned seniors in Minnesota, Henry is a physical specimen at 6-foot-8. His ability to change the game on both ends of the floor is the reason BOLD is ranked as high as it is at this point in the season. He’s a double-double threat every night but also a terrific interior defender.
Brandon Adelman, Sr., New London-Spicer
Adelman is one of the top players in the state and will have his fingerprints all over any success the Wildcats enjoy this season. He’s a big, strong, guard who can run the offense, knock down perimeter shots, score from the mid-range, create for his teammates and make game-changing defensive plays.
Drey Dirksen, Sr., Willmar
Dirksen has been Willmar’s best player early in the season and while the Cardinals are still finding their footing and adjusting to life without a bonafide go-to scorer, they’ve got a chance to be one of the best teams in the state. Dirksen’s ability to knock down perimeter shots as well as get to the rim has been critical.
Gavin Vosika, Jr., BOLD
One of the best point guards in the 2020 class, Vosika is the conductor of a BOLD offense that is firing on all cylinders to start the season. He’s a terrific deep shooter and does a great job balancing finding his own offense with feeding a plethora of talented scorers around him. He also rebounds extremely well for a guard.
Caden Bjornjeld, Sr., Lac Qui Parle Valley
Lac Qui Parle Valley is off to a very good start this season and Bjornjeld’s been the engine. The senior guard is averaging better than 20 points per game and his ability to score from all levels of the floor has allowed the Eagles to pile up big point totals.
Austin TeBrake, Jr., Central Minnesota Christian
TeBrake is one of the best players in the Camden Conference as a junior, averaging about 17 points per game. As a sophomore, TeBrake put up 12 points per game. He’s got good size for a combo-forward and makes for a tough cover as he’s tough and skilled.
Ty Roeloffs, Sr., Willmar
Roeloffs has picked it up in recent games for the Cardinals, consistently scoring in the 14-18 point range while averaging better than seven rebounds. He’s a worker on the offensive end and does his best work when he’s slashing to the rim and playing in the paint.
Jordan Sagedahl, Jr., BOLD
Jordan is one of the best shooters in the area and while he isn’t necessarily a go-to scorer for the Warriors, his ability to space the floor and capitalize when defenses dedicate extra attention to the paint is a crucial element to his team’s success.
Drew Sagedahl, Soph., BOLD
Drew’s off to a fantastic start this season, averaging better than 15 points per game while contributing on the glass and as a playmaker. He’s proving himself to be an effective perimeter shooter but there’s also a fearlessness in his game and he’s excelling playing off Vosika, Henry and the elder Sagedahl.
Ryan Wyganowski, Sr., New London-Spicer
The other half to New London-Spicer’s elite backcourt, Wyganowski is a dynamic scorer and what he lacks in size, he makes up for with quickness, speed and aggressiveness. He’s a consistent double-figure scorer.
