We may not have the numbers but we still have the athletes.” Parowan has always competed but this year Porter Wood hopes to take them all the way.
Porter comes from an athletic background as his mom played volleyball and track. His father played basketball. Porter knows how lucky he is to come from an athletic family. He hopes those genes he has can continue to help him on the basketball court.
Like most small towns there is rich history in their high school halls. Most of the players parents including Porter’s attended the same high school as well. There is a lot of pride that these young people carry with them. “It’s a small school we all know each other by name.”
Porter started off the year getting his basketball legs back as he was the star QB for the Parowan Football Team. He accumulated over 1500 total yards for his 8-3 football team.
Porter Wood is averaging 23 PPG, 9 PPG, 2 APG, and 2 SPG. The 6’3 senior athlete is almost leading his team in every statistical category. Porter is not unfamiliar with leading his team. He lead his team in scoring last year by averaging 18 points per game. Porter is leading all scorers in 2A thus far.
Parowan has always been well coached. Porter knows that execution of what is asked from them is what is going to take them far.
Parowan is currently 7-1 with their lone loss coming at the hands of a 4A school. Last season Parowan won 12 games and lost to Layton Christian Academy in the 3rd place game. Both teams are ranked 1 and 2 in our poll. We expect them to clash again in the playoffs. With 14 games in the regular season left we would not be at all surprised in Porter and Parowan win 13 of 14 to head into state.
